Need to add some pep to your step? Well, The PepTides are here to save the day. With seven east coast shows planned this week—including a pair of shows at The Carleton—the nine-member group is coming through with a prescription for summertime sadness.

Featured in Ottawa Life magazine as "Ottawa's best band," The PepTides are an eclectic community of musicians with a rainbow of identities: Girls and guys, gay and straight, English and French, black and white—offering a snapshot of Canadian diversity.

Drawing on funk, electronic and disco influences, the five-vocalist/four-instrumentalist group is giving audiences a sensory treat to tickle their pleasure centres.

"There's always something interesting to look at every second of every show," says keyboardist Scottie Irving, noting the group's lively performances include theatrical choreography, thick vocal harmonies and bright neon colours. "If someone takes time out to see your show, you have to shower them with love, affection and specialness. That's our favourite part—showering our fans with PepTide love."

Following a successful east coast visit last summer, The PepTides are showering Atlantic Canadian audiences with extra love this time around by giving an advance preview of their upcoming album Galápagos, Vol. I, set for release on October 27. Inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's 1985 novel Galápagos, the new songs focus on "things like sex, money, fame, war, and the foils of humanity," says Irving.

Overall, the group is thankful to its local fans for embracing its "big happy family feel." "I just want people to know that it's a show that's for them," says Irving. "It's music at its best with no hangups. Be free, feel free and come out and give it a chance—you won't regret it."
