Halifax's newest punk band Problem Attic is already much cooler than you. And the lead singer, Jude, is only four! You've got some catching up to do. Today, exclusively at The Coast, Problem Attic releases first single, "RAWR," as part of a split release called Hand Sanitizer (All We've Got Records) with Japanese-Halifax band, Come With Me (If You Want to Live). It rules.

"Lead by 4 year old Jude, the thrash punk band was formed in the wake of one too many late night apple juice binges," says Julian Morrow (dad/guitar/drums), "It's a charged sound somewhere between the optimism of childhood and the tribulations of being woken up too early. According to Jude, 'RAWR' is about 'being woken up too early when I was trying to sleep' and plays with the elements of childhood dreams of being a large animal that could simply 'scream instead of talking words early in the morning'." I know that feeling, little buddy, I really hate mornings, too.

With his interest in music, Jude's vision drives the band: "He suggested the idea of making some songs together," says Morrow, "He's the boss when it comes to the style and sound of the song process (which I guess sort of reflects the mind of a four-year-old — noisy, loud, silly and fun)."

On Thursday, you can buy the split on Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes and GooglePlay, with all proceeds going towards Jude's college fund. Until then, he's working on an EP with his dad.

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
