Time is running out to catch Vile Passéist Theatre’s terrific production of Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus, and if you miss it, you’ll be sorry. This tale of an egotistical 16th century scholar who trades his soul for 24 years of pleasure is darkly funny and visually captivating. Pasha Ebrahimi’s portrayal of Faustus gives us a man so drunk on knowledge that he is teetering on the edge of madness. Keelin Jack’s playful, saucy and mercurial Mephistopheles—-Lucifer’s minion—-provides a lovely foil to his broodiness. The supporting actors bring much of the comedy to life in roles that run the gamut from clown-nosed buffoons to hissing dark spirits. Inventive use of puppetry, striking costumes and first-class lighting and sound design makes me declare this show, despite its hellish subject matter, quite heavenly.

The show runs 8 PM nightly Feb 26 — Mar 1. 2 PM matinee on Mar 1; 4 PM on Mar 2 (no evening show).

The play is approximately 95 minutes in length with an intermission.

Tickets are $20 or $15 for students/seniors/artists/underwaged, and can be purchased online at reserved by email at and paid with cash at the door
