Hold onto your autograph books, this weekend’s Hal-Con 2012 sci-fi, fantasy and gaming convention (Oct 26-28, World Trade and Convention Centre, 1800 Argyle Street) is set to break the record (also previously held by Hal-Con) for the so-called “nerdiest weekend in Halifax”. Featuring esteemed guests in the fields of film, TV, books, comics, music and more, such as John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings), the amazing Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Secret Six), Steve McNiven (Amazing Spider Man, Wolverine) and such local heroes as Darwyn Cooke (PARKER), Mike Holmes (True Story), Fat Apollo (that Battlestar Galactica outfit, Geeks Versus Nerds) and Nerd Army, Hal-Con has lined up another jam-packed weekend of wonderous nerdery. There is something for all shades of niche interest groups, Middle Age fight techniques? You’d better believe that’s a workshop. “7 Deadly Sins of Cosplaying” (so as not to embarrass yourself), fiction writing, storyboarding, movie screenings, everything you could possibly want to know about steampunks, “How to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse” and an intriguing sketch-a-thon titled “Real Life Superbabes: They Do Exist!”. Um yeah, hello! Head to and start the unenviable task of trying to do everything (you can’t, so just relax and have fun).
