Music & Image makes video magic happen

That June 15 deadline, she's a-loomin'

Music & Image makes video magic happen
Mo Kenney and Greg Jackson's creation

Since The Beatles first popularized music videos in the ‘60s, producing video to accompany a single track has grown into more and more of a necessity for musicians and filmmakers alike. Although videos were once created for television, we are now smack dab in a time where a music video’s popularity is based on YouTube views. As of today, that once innocent kid Justin Bieber has the most viewed music video on YouTube: "Baby" has a whopping 740,229,955 views.

A music video could potentially make or break a musician or filmmaker. No one is buying the album of that guy who picks his nose in a music video for five minutes. But what if—like that guy—you don’t know how to make a super sweet music video? Music & Image can help save you and your dignity. For the second year in a row, Music & Image—which is a partnership between the Atlantic Film Festival Association and the East Coast Music Association—is organizing the 10x10 Music Video Mentorship Program.

This program involves finding ten Atlantic region filmmakers and ten musicians, pairing them up, and letting the magic unfold. Each pair spends five days together to learn the ropes of video production and working in harmony with other creative people. The end result is a unique and original music video that’s shown at the Atlantic Film Fest and posted online.

The winner is chosen by online votes. Last years winner was singer-songwriter Mo Kenney and filmmaker Greg Jackson. They received a $5,000 prize to split, but this year, the prize is going to be even bigger—to be specific, it’ll be doubled. If this idea and program tickles your fancy, then make sure to apply before the June 15 deadline, so you can have the chance of giving that saucy Justin Bieber a run for his money.
