That pizza looks so good, I’m gonna write it a sonnet.
  • That pizza looks so good, I’m gonna write it a sonnet.

I don’t eat no meat, no dairy, no sweets
Only ripe vegetables, fresh fruit and whole wheat
I’m from the old school, my household smells like soul food
Curried falafel, bar-be-cued tofu
No fish though, no candy bars, no cigarettes
Only ganja and fresh-squeezed juice from oranges
Exercising daily to stay healthy
And I rarely drink water out the tap, cause it’s filthy

Ok, I didn’t write that. Dead Prez did. But if I had, I would definitely submit it to Open Heart Forgery, ASAP. The free monthly journal is looking for farming and food related poetry and lyrics for its newest edition entitled Open Heart Farming. There are no age limits, and you don’t need to be a professional writer to send in your work. The only requirement is that the writers live in Nova Scotia. If you want to see your poetry distributed at farmers' markets, coffee shops or posted online, get your submissions to Mary Ellen Sullivan at by April 30. Do it. It’ll impress your friends.
