May 31 to June 3, Halifax turns into a beautiful cacophony of damaged music and art thanks to DIVORCE Records' OBEY Convention. The fifth year of the outsider music festival includes New York's electro-pop futurist Gary War (Sacred Bones/Spectral Spools), San Francisco's acoustic guitar master Bill Orcutt (Edition Mego, Palilalia), and from New York, pop-noise wonderkid Eric Copeland of Black Dice (Paw Tracks, Post Present Medium), Montreal's rock and roll pomade salesman/whirlwind Bloodshot Bill (Norton Records), and Montreal punks The Pink Noise (Sacred Bones, Pleasance Records).

DIVORCE's own talent includes Jerry Granelli, Shearing Pinx (Vancouver), Torso, Husband & Knife, J fm (Toronto), and You'll Never Get to Heaven (London, ON).

No OBEY is complete without a bitchin' art component, so this is where Robert Drisdelle and Jacquline Lachance, James Gauvreau, the Crowd Control Sound & Art Fair, Heather Rappard, space&time and FRANKIE step up.

Get ready for a Weird Canada showcase and a Periodical Project launch party. All events will take place at Halifax's premiere artist run spaces—The Khyber Centre for the Arts, The Bus Stop Theatre, 1313, and Lost & Found.

A very limited number of weekend passes are on sale now. Advance tickets for select events MAY be available starting late April. More info and full listings at obeyconvention.com and at obeyconvention.blogspot.com.
