If you’ve gone walking around the city the past couple of years, you’ve probably seen one of DJ Bones’ posters. They usually feature a photo of a young, cute, sweaty, possibly tipsy group of people caught in mid-dance or mid-“Wooo!” Big orange-y comic book letters proclaim the name of the event: Indie Pop Night. Bones (otherwise known as Monctonian Marc LeBlanc) has been hosting the dance nights across the East Coast for awhile now, but recently went on a 9-month hiatus due to a pressing amount of other projects, including his hosting duties for la photo sonore, a show that’s been on the University of Moncton’s CKUM station for nearly 20 years and reporting on Francophone and East Coast music for the CBC. He’s gotten back on the horse, though, and this Saturday marks his return to Gus’. Although he insists he’s “not an awesome DJ by any means,” LeBlanc’s nights have gotten increasingly popular due to his accessible but eclectic playlist—-he plays everything from Les Breastfeeders to TV on the Radio and has a special soft spot for local acts. This round will feature a couple of guest DJs from Halifax, including the Sleepless Nights’ A.A. Wallace.

“I’m not a music snob in any sense,” says Bones. “I’ll mix indie with more cheesy mainstream stuff. I love live music and I love sharing new music, so this is the best of both worlds for me. It’s all about building our little scene here, and having fun—-that’s my recipe.”
