I left Old Blue locked up last night, as I was sticking to the Argyle area. So, while there were no broken bones on night two there were some broken hearts.

First on tap was the lovely Hannah Georgas and darling Said the Whale at The Toothy Moose. There was a great crowd for both bands, including a mob of girls front and centre fawning over the boys from Said the Whale. It wasn’t until 15 minutes after they got off stage that I could grab a few minutes with them myself, as the boys were kindly saying thanks and chatting to fan after fan. Those little heartbreakers!

So did Said the Whale get cut off at the end of your set?
Tyler Bancroft (Said the Whale): I feel bad. I started a chat that said fuck that. That’s not normally like me. I would never do that. I had a few beers in me and upset we didn’t get to play our last song. We talked too much really. We need to stop talking so much.

I couldn’t help but notice there was a lot of couples in the crowd tonight. Is that normal for a Hannah/Whale show?
TB: No I think they probably heard about me and hanah and our relationship and just wanted to mirror that. It’s so sceny. That’s not true at all. It’s a filthy lie.
Hannah Georgas: It’s so filthy.

It seemed like you had quite the group of ladies up front there.
TB: I don’t know if you noticed but our bass player has a really awesome mustache, and mustaches are chick magnets really. I would attribute the chicks in the crowd to the mustache on our bass player.
HG: Same with me.

I noticed that you seemed pretty happy on stage Hannah. You were smiling all the time.

HG: I think it’s just the people that I’m playing with make me smile and I think when I’m most comfortable that’s when it happens. And I’m a happy person generally. That’s why I like to smile.

You’ve been on tour together for almost three weeks now. Are things starting to blur?
HG: I can’t remember what city I was in the day before. It’s been an awesome blur for me.

You mentioned during your set Tyler, that you had some delicious seafood chowder today in Halifax. Where was that?
TB: McKelvies. Everything was super expensive except for the chowder, which was eight bucks for a bowl, which was great given the quality of the chowder.

Now Said the Whale was supposed to play Hpx before, right?
TB: We were billed to, and then we had to bail out because we played CMJ in New York. I prefer Halifax to be honest. Definitely. Halifax is way nicer.

So you’re both from Vancouver—-have you noticed any Halifax-Vancouver connection?
HG: I think there is. I was just taking a walk around to get some fresh air and it feels like Victoria.
TB: The first thing we said was holy shit this is kind of like Seattle. You’ve got a very industrial harbour and all these hills. A very Seattle vibe…and everyone talks funny which is amazing.
