- Thy Flesh Consumed
Thrashfest tore up Gus’ Pub last weekend with performances by Thy Flesh Consumed, Terratomb, Hellacaust, North End Metal All Stars, Big Game Hunt and Cicada (Friday) and Hands of Death, Fistfight, Orchid’s Curse, Hate Division, Panic and War and Select and Dismember (Saturday). Organizers Matthew Francis, Randy Crust and Myron Cottreau (all members of Fistfight) have outdone themselves with the third annual event (technically in it’s second “official” year). “The whole idea is to have a metal show that's put on by fans for other fans,” say Francis. “I feel that one thing Halifax has always had going for it is an amazing level of talent. There are a lot of great bands and the fans are very supportive and dedicated.” Randy Crust (who also hosts CKDU’s Mutants on Parade) adds, “one thing that the scene has now that it didn't before is organization and business sense by dedicated professionals like Josh Hogan of Diminished Fifth. Many bands are joining organizations like Music Nova Scotia and the ECMAs. We seem to be getting over our self imposed isolation and bands are forcing the world to reckon with them.”
"The metal scene in HRM right now is at an all time high," says Cottreau. "On the eve of a show gallivanting across the city are a bounty of spike, leather, fan shirt clad fans filling the streets"
