Originally there were plans for a benefit concert to assist Daniel Gaynor, but sadly the 26-year-old filmmaker passed away from cancer on September 18. Instead, there’s a tribute night on Monday at Tribeca (8pm, suggested donation of $5). Gaynor worked with Eastlink Television, was the core digital film instructor at the Centre for Arts and Technology, an editor on season seven of Trailer Park Boys and the Tragically Hip video “Yer not the Ocean”, plus acted as director/editor/producer on many ads, documentaries and short films.
Kevin Fraser first met Gaynor in 1998 when Gaynor was teaching a filmmaking course, and then worked with him on countless projects. “He always led by example,” says Fraser, on his way to a shoot in Cape Breton. “He taught us that nothing is impossible and to always follow your dreams,” a lesson that Fraser, who comes from rural Pictou county, took to heart. Fraser says that even when Gaynor was alive, “people have always said how amazing and helpful he was. He was extraordinary.”
The tribute will celebrate Gaynor’s life and work, with performances by Magnus Haze, The Stogies, Mary Stewart and Suzie Vinnick.
