Adieu to ye, Kyla | Music | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

I know you’re out there, you flibberdibibbet. Each Sunday and Monday night, faithfully watching CBC TV’s weekly dirndl display, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria, in search of the next Maria von Trapp. It’s OK---until Monday’s results show you could lie and say it was to support hometown Dartmouthian Kyla Tingley, who was sadly voted off this week. A member of ECMA-nominated band The Chronicles, who also appeared in our 2005 New Music issue, Tingley was forced to endure the show’s heinous ending where they make the booted-off Maria sing “So Long, Farewell.”

CBC’s foray into reality contests is predictably as sweet as whiskers on kittens (except for Doctor Who judge John Barrowman) with sadly no America’s Next Top Model-sized fights, yelling matches, tears or gratuitous product placements.
