Rock of Independence

Posted on Wed, Jul 2, 2008 at 2:14 PM

For those of you who haven't had enough flag-waving yet and are craving more patriotic themed events, you’re in luck. Rock of Independence, July 4 at the Bus Stop Theatre (6pm, $7) is a night of metal and hard rock, with King Ruckus from Moncton ("groovy metal"), Surefire Machine (Toronto) ("hard hitting anthemic rockabilly"), Badseed Overdrive ("super chunky riffy metal band"), Broken Ohms singer Peter Hubley is playing an acoustic set, Janus ("cultish metal band") and Halcyon ("ethereal high emotional folk rock band"). (All band descriptions thoughtfully provided by Brett Campaigne from Janus). The show, booked originally by Heather Doran of Halcyon, was "booked as a fluke but when it came to coming up for a theme for the show it was appropriate that it fell on independence day." Says Campaigne. Janus are currently working on a self produced demo and planning a show for August 16th with Winnipeg's gothic metal troupe Nocturnal Divinity. Personally, I am glad people still consider themes necessary for shows. It's a rare breed of show, but I do appreciate it.
