Journalist, Wolf

There aren’t many bands like Journalists, Wolf. They write “songs about celebrities, the devil and Timmy Connors, Rayden from Mortal Kombat, Ian Hanomansing, DJ Fresh Phil and Oprah” and rock a particularly stellar ode to Patrick Swayze (“Patrick Sleazy”). The band---made up of 10 or more shirtless people covered in fake blood---are marking the release of their new album In Love, with a chaotic live show, February 28 at Gus’ Pub, joined by Spincycle Squared, The Fantods and Le Coque et Les Phoques. “The album was recorded by myself and Alex Currie in our dark, dungeon-y basement, then sent to Franc and Tom Lopes in Massachusetts to be mixed and mastered by fresh ears,” says drummer Mike Dorton (AKA Werewolf). “It is an evil flood of feedback and celebrities.” Dorton, Alex Currie (Baio Wolf, guitar/vocals), Craig Currie (Sleep Wolf, guitar/vocals), Jared Russell (bass/vocals), Dave Lipton (Shred Wolf, guitar), Amy Vinnedge (Low-Down Dirty Ho Wolf, keytar/vocals), Marc Johnson (Destiny Wolf, tambourine/acoustic guitar), Timmy Connors (Timber Wolf, keyboards/vocals), Adrian Morrison (Rage Wolf, bow staff against guitars), Nathan Cameron (Bicycle Repair Wolf, trombone), Jo Jo Currie (bagpipes) and Demi Wolves Alfred Remo (harmonica) and Franc Lopes make up the band, a lynchpin of the Radiator Collective. I can’t shake the image of these folks touring Canada and playing to a polarized crowd in, say, Regina.
