Wordburglar

Posted By on Thu, Jan 24, 2008 at 4:19 PM

On Saturday, January 26, the Seahorse will be transformed into a junior-high gym for a modern-day MuchMusic video dance party. Performing with Windom Earle, The Stolen Minks and BA Johnston, the Wordburglar (AKA Sean Jordan) is releasing his video for "Cream of Wheat" (off his album Burglaritis), and I can hear the rock signs being thrown up already. Shot in Halifax and directed by Sundance-bound, Seattle/Toronto director Sara St. Onge (who's directed videos for Final Fantasy, Jill Barber, Gentleman Reg, Ghettosocks and others), the video focuses on the everyday aspects of being a rap superstar.

"Sara based it on the 1984 Jim Jarmusch film Stranger Than Paradise, which is sort of a coming-of-age film," says Jordan. "Our version follows me around Halifax hanging with friends and doing low-key things. It's probably the most low-key rap video ever made, but I think it suits the song perfectly and it looks really nice." Acting in the video wasn't that much of a stretch for Jordan, and that's because he is one of those actor/musicians you hear about a lot.

"I'm working on a new album right now with Beatmason, Uncle Fester and a bunch of the Backburner crew, as well as some acting and writing projects," says Jordan. "I've been doing lots of rap and sketch comedy shows in Toronto and I'll hopefully be touring some of it this summer. Also, Lost season four starts next week, so I'm gonna be busy for the next couple months worth of Thursdays."

Jordan is a fairly recent transplant to Toronto from Halifax, but his frequent trips back home make it seem as if he hasn't left. When asked if he has plans to return here for good, Jordan is positive. "Of course. Halifax rules; all my favorite people are here. I get back pretty frequently as it is and it'll always be home to me." Aw.
