ViewPoint Gallery

Posted By on Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 9:09 AM

Forget all your troubles, forget all your cares and go downtown to photography co-operative ViewPoint Gallery, who are celebrating their move to 1272 Barrington (across from Bearley's), on Thursday, January 10 from 6-9pm.

The group has been toiling, putting up partitions and painting the walls to transform the former retail shop into a gallery. Appropriately, the first show in the fresh, street-level space is NewPoints: Essence of You, featuring the co-op's newest members, Brian Atkinson, Anne Bastedo, Colin Campbell, Anne Launcelott and Monika Wright. Their photos differ dramatically—from Wright's abstract, liquidy representations to Launcelott's more direct, contemplative work—which is the point of the exhibition. "Basically, the idea is that each of us has our own style and way of working, doing our images," says Campbell, the newest member of the bunch, who joined in November. "We look at different things, we see different things. The title is a reflection of what we are." NewPoints runs until February 3.

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
