Just in time for its 80th anniversary of life changing social enterprise work, Goodwill is coming to town. Opening in a 17,000 square foot space in Burnside (202 Brownlow Avenue, Unit 8), Dartmouth’s Goodwill location—the first in this region—will be home to a non-profit Goodies Thrift Store, full of gently used clothing and accessories, an in-store cafe, as well as a Goodwill Career Centre.
“We connect people with jobs, that’s what what our mission is,” says regional director Kelly Kurki. The career centre, which will open in the fall, will aim to help folks with barriers find employment, with a job developer and resource centre, for resume building, career counselling, workshops and supportive training. The thrift store portion will open for your second-hand picking pleasure on Saturday, August 29, but until then is taking donations of clothing, shoes, books, toys and housewares. Sounds like an excuse to closet purge.
