“I’m the type of person who goes into a shop with the intent of buying one card and comes out with seven,” says Kasey Chaulk, the brains behind Frank & Folly a soon-to-be source for stationery and gift ideas that'll launch online, and in pop-up form, this fall, with a physical store to follow.“The art of giving and sending things can be lost in the shuffle, I want to bring back the sense of humour and celebration.”

A background in marketing, a longtime love for giving thoughtful gifts—”The first card i ever gave in line with this idea was when I was 14 gave my best friend one that I’d stolen from my mom, and it said Happy birthday, dickhead on it,” remembers Chaulk—and a curiousity for entrepreneurship have pushed her to make Frank & Folly a reality. Though the shop’s currently in curation mode, she says clever, honest and hilarious cards will be the star of the show, with a supporting cast of quirky gifts and “a ridiculously personal shopping experience”.

Frank & Folly is already working with Dartmouth Clothing Company on some goodies, and is hunting for more local, handcrafted things to add to the mix. Its online store, frankandfolly.com, will launch in November, and Chaulk is working on plans for a pop-up shop around the same time. “The priority is getting really awesome shit in peoples’ hands for the holidays," she says.
