Picture this—50-plus enviably talented Maritime comic artists and cartoonists, publishers and store owners, bringing their brains, books and mad skills to an easy-access venue on the Dartmouth waterfront for an all-day, free admission event that’ll also feature snacks and a magic show.

Pinch yourself and you’ll quickly realize you’re not dreaming.

This is the Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival round two, taking over Alderney Landing (2 Ochterloney Street) once again this Sunday, August 18 from 11am to 5pm. “We’d always wanted to do our own convention focussed specifically on comics,” says Calum Johnston, owner of Strange Adventures. “We thought it would be fun to have one that ‘s more like a craft show, focussed more on the artists.”

This year he’s happy to see folks who attended last year’s DCAF, and discovered making a zine’s a doable thing, exhibiting their own work this time around. “It can be a very solo experience. Working at home, working in your own studio,” says Johnston. “It's nice to see a lot of people involved commiserating and comparing ideas.”

Whether artist or worshipper, Sunday’s fest will bring big names and fresh faces selling shirts, comics and prints, new releases, like Canadian super hero anthology True Patriot, with work from Faith Erin Hicks, and ol’ reliables, like Quantum Frontier Games & Comics, Strange Adventures, Dartmouth Clothing Co., Hal Con, Conundrum Publishing, Invisible Publishing and every stroke of genius in between.
