Second Storey time

One of downtown's newest shopping stops, full of all things found, made and local

If there’s one thing we can all be sure of this holiday season, it’s that Halifax loves second-hand. One of the newest additions to the burgeoning scene, Second Storey, (1526 Queen Street) is tucked away in a small corner on a nondescript second floor on the section of Queen Street that should be better known as vintage heaven. Open since September, Second Storey’s tagline says it all: found - made - local. Nadine LaRoche, one of six partners who curate and contribute to Second Storey’s collection, says that providing a space for local talent has always been really important to her. “For us the whole reason we wanted to put the store together was this idea of celebrating the talent in Halifax,” says LaRoche, who works with Mimi Audellynn, Charlotte Jewer, Bianca Palmer, Carole Rankin and Lindsay Stewart to run the cozy spot. From handmade jewelry to vintage clothes, shoes and accessories, Second Storey has all their bases covered. Somethings to keep you feelin’ bright as the temperature cools: see the photo above for the perfect infinity scarf from Rankin’s line Kin, layered over a handmade necklace from LaRoche’s halfsix and sleek skirt and top combo from Audellynn’s Denova.
