Tammachat spring show 2011

Natural Textiles people bring fabrics from Southest Asia

After spending four months in Thailand and Laos, Tammachat Natural Textiles (902-624-0427, tammachat.com) are back in the city to celebrate Mother’s Day and World Fair Trade Day in style.

The Dress Up Spring sale takes place at the Council of Woman’s House, 989 Young Avenue
from 10am-5pm, May 7 and 8, with 25 percent off selected items.

For those who don't know, Tammachat provides sweatshop-free, fairly traded clothing hand-crafted by women working with Kumpor Eco, a weaving and tailoring co-op in Northern Thailand.

Other top-drawer items include seasonal organic silk scarves---now featuring new men’s scarves---as well as hand-stitched organic cotton cushion covers. For each item sold, Tammachat will give a child in Laos their first book, through a program run by Big Brother Mouse book publishing.

All textiles are hand-loomed and coloured with natural or European Union certified dyes.
