My favourite finds: Vagabond Vintage

We love David Figueroa and Zsuzsa Szoke, the founders of Vagabond Vintage, Halifax’s only roaming vintage sale, and experts at pulling gems from the junk.

David Figueroa
Personal style: Lately, I’ve been attracted to the working-class fashions of lumberjacks and coal miners found on a vintage postcard. As an artist who is interested in Canadian imagery, I feel these sensibilities are mirrored in my fashion sense.
Favourite item: This dress shirt with the pastoral scene is one of my favourite finds for it is colourful and comical, creating a narrative with more classic items such as a fedora and leather vest.

Zsuzsa Szoke
Personal style: I often feel like I’m dressing for an international photo shoot or like an art teacher, both in the ’90s. I’ll pretty much wear anything that fits my body. I get really excited about vintage rayon and silk, especially in prints.
Favourite item: This blouse! I love the textured sheer lemon yellow, hand-crocheted buttons and trim, plus embroidered floral embellishments. It reminds me of eating lemon meringue pie 100 years ago in New Orleans. I can’t believe it hasn’t sold.

Look for the next Vagabond Vintage sale on May 29, from 11am to 4pm, as part of the Obey Convention’s Crowd Control event, on the grassy lot across the street from the Bus Stop Theatre (Gottingen and Cunard). Ongoing Sunday sales at the Gottingen Street Market starting June 6, 10am-2pm. Also look for them on June 19, from 11am-4:30pm, at 2542 Agricola. For updates, follow the Vagabond Vintage Facebook group.
