Bike Week bike store stuff

Cyclesmith (6112 Quinpool Road, 425-1756), which is sponsoring a number of Bike Week events, is currently enjoying their new expanded showroom at the corner of Quinpool and Vernon. “Every week is Bike Week at Cyclesmith,” says co-owner Mark Beaver. Downtown at Idealbikes (1678 Barrington Street, 444-7433) they’re offering a free maintenance clinic on Wednesday, June 2. Register by 6:30pm by phone or in person and show up for some bike learnin’ at 7pm. In the north end, Bikes By Dave (6191 Young Street, 455-1677) is offering a slew of bike specials and sales, with added services going to local charities, including free bike tune-ups and helmets. At Jack Nauss Bicycle Shop (2533 Agricola Street, 429-0024) has nothing in particular planned for Bike Week, but is super-busy anyway helping out you north end cyclists. “This year’s been a big polarization compared to last year,” says Nauss’s Mitchell Melanson. “It has everything to do with the weather. Our season started in early March instead of May.” In Lower Sackville, Sportwheels (209 Sackville Drive, 865-9033) has every Norco brand bike on sale “until they’re gone.” An entry-level model of the British Columbia-based manufacturer is going for $279. And at the newest bike store in town, Halifax Cycle Gallery (6299 Quinpool Road, 407-4222), they’re celebrating being open, offering “a line of products not really available in North America,” says co-owner Roger Nelson. Nelson, who has worked in bike shops locally for 10 years, including Idealbikes and Cyclesmith, says the biking community has been bringing strong feedback on the new store. He wants to remind customers that even though the HCG retails fancy European bicycles, the store also does service and repairs on any kind of bike on the road, by “one of the most experienced mechanics in the city.”
