Bead Pod moves

Posted By on Thu, May 15, 2008 at 7:00 PM

After 17 years in the same downtown location, jewellery-making supply emporium The Bead Pod (1567 Grafton) is on the move. The store will close up shop in its current location the weekend of June 8 and reopen in its new location---on Logiealmond Close in Dartmouth Crossing---a month later. Why such a big move? "It's just the retail sector of downtown...there's just not awhole lot that seems to be hanging on down there," says owner Jackie Percy. "The rents are just too high for us little independent people." Rents are high out in Dartmouth Crossing, too, Percy concedes---but she's hoping she'll find greater exposure and foot traffic at her new location. Plus, Percy's also opening a second business out in Dartmouth Crossing, and the new store's yet-to-be-announced concept "would never fly downtown," she says. And, she adds, "I want my two locations side by side." There will be no major changes to the Bead Pod itself following the move. The new location has more space, which could mean an increase in the amount of inventory. Once the move's complete, Percy hopes to offering Sunday evening jewellery-making workshops. Check back for news about Percy's new business.
