The management switch at Bob & Lori's Food Emporium (2179 Gottingen) became official Thursday and the popular joint's also got a new name.
New managers Stephen Fowler, Paul Rogers, Carole LeBlanc and Eric Gunnels are calling the eatery The Good Food Emporium. (It reminds me of Putnam's Prairie Emporium, the show with the talking moose head.) There won't be any talking moose at TGFE, there will be something almost as good: Starting this weekend, the restaurant will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm for weekend brunch. "The menu hasn't been determined yet, but it should be much more extensive than our current breakfast menu," says Rogers, who promises "waffles and eggs." Along with new weekend hours, TGFE will also begin opening an hour earlier on weekday mornings (7am, instead of 8am) and its kitchen will close a half-hour later (4pm, instead of 3:30pm). Those changes kick in next week.
Customers can also expect the restaurant to begin selling more retail items---bottles of soynaise and bulk orders of baked goods will join the currently available granola, cookies and peanut butter. Rogers and company are also hoping to make artistic-minded events a regular fixture at the Good Food. Otherwise, Bob & Lori's fans afraid of change can rest easy. "We're going to try and keep the feel of the existing menu," says Rogers. However, the managers do have one more big switch up their sleeves: Soon, the restaurant's familiar green exterior will be painted up with cheery blue and yellow. Google tells me there's a song called "Blue and Yellow," by The Used. (I'm not sure what bearing that has on this situation, but I thought everyone would like to know.) Call the Emporium at 422-3150.
