Foggy Goggle | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Looking for more info about the intriguingly named pub Foggy Goggle, the new tenant at the former Soho Bar & Grill stomping grounds (1667 Argyle)? Well, for starters, the new pub is in no way affiliated with the similarly named Foggy Goggle bar in Boston (which means the smiling scantily clad ladies and fishbowl drinks featured in online pictures of the Boston Goggle likely won’t be making an appearance here). Instead, “casualness” will be the name of the game at the Halifax Foggy Goggle, says Natalie Dugie, who co-owns the joint with Julie Pierce. “People will enjoy the atmosphere,” she promises. High-top tables have been added to the space to amp up the restaurant’s pub feel and the whole joint’s been repainted in a variety of warm tones. Dugie’s an experienced pub-runner---she also owns The Atlantic Trap & Gill, a Nova Scotia-inspired chain of pubs she started out west (Dugie’s back here in NS now because “it was time to come home,” she says.) Dugie and Pierce also own local catering company LGL Occasions, a business they’ve put on hold for now to focus on the Goggle. The menu for the pub has yet to be finalized, but expect tasty burgers (with interesting toppings such as caramelized onions), “hot smoked-salmon dip” and a focus on local, organic ingredients. The pub’ll also be keeping later hours than Soho did---the doors will be open until 2am on weekends. As for the pub’s catchy name, Dugie says there’s no real hidden meaning. “We wanted a name people would remember,” she laughs. Mission accomplished. Contact the pub at 444-1414.
