Bubba Ray’s | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

If you’re like me, you’ve spent the last three months bemoaning the loss of the Peel Pub’s tasty, cheap wings. But the Peel Pub (formerly of 5650 Spring Garden) dumped us---and it’s high time for us to stop drunk-dialing their old phone number, move on and find a new wing-provider. Luckily, Bubba Ray’s Sports Bar, the latest venture from the fine people behind Bubbles Mansion (5287 Prince) and Peddler’s Pub (1903 Granville) opens tomorrow and looks like it’ll be able to provide all kinds of hot wing action (plus, it’s in the old Peel Pub space, so we won’t have to memorize a new address). “We’re going to have six different types of wings, with 50 different sauces,” promises Ryan MacIsaac, who owns the bar along with Ray Hartlin, Jeff Thompson and Mike Smith (AKA Bubbles on Trailer Park Boys). Sauces for the wings include apple butter and mango chipotle and spiciness levels range from “mild” to “armageddon.” Bubba’s will also offer standard pub fare---nachos, quesadillas, etc.---and homemade burgers (some of which come stuffed with cheese). And if you perked up at the “sports” part of the bar’s name, MacIsaac has some sweet news for you, too: “This is going to be a true, true sports bar,” he says. Bubba’s will boast 26 plasma TVs and 20 digital video recorders. “We’ll be recording any big games...If someone misses the game the night before and they come in for lunch and want to see the game...we can throw it on for them,” says MacIsaac. There’ll also be fancy sports memorabilia---jerseys, pics, goalie pads and more---
covering the walls (and available for purchase) and neat games on hand, including a 1970s Bobby Orr pinball machine.

Oh, Bubba Ray’s. You had me at mango chipotle. Find a new love at 405-4344.
