Cooper Tardivel, Just Us! Cafe, Soup Sergeant, Pyramid Cafe

Posted By on Thu, Feb 21, 2008 at 4:20 PM

Local bartender Cooper Tardivel, of Mosaic Social Dining Lounge, has advanced to the next round in the Bols Around the World global cocktail competition: He’ll take his prize-winning True North martini to Amsterdam next month, to compete against the other top-ten finalists for the title of Bols Cocktail Master 2008. This is particularly exciting news, because “Cooper Tardivel” is a

terribly fun name to say (Give it a try!)...Some good news for guilty java fiends who keep leaving their travel mugs at home: Both the Spring Garden and Barrington Just Us! Cafe locations have introduced compostable take-out cups...Willow’s Pet Place (1526 Dresden Row) and a bunch of other local partners are in cahoots---to help your pet become healthier. They’re launching a series of
pet-food cooking classes. Check out their two-hour introductory presentation on February 29, in the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building at Dalhousie, for $10. Register at Willow’s; Learn more next week...The Soup Sergeant has closed for “restructuring,” according to a notice posted at the 5986 Spring Garden location. Over at the 6300 Quinpool outlet, the windows are papered over and a sign in the window mysteriously informs us, in bright orange letters, that “Steamy’s” is “coming to the Maritimes,” (and presumably opening in that very spot).

What’s Steamy’s? If you know, please tell me...The Pyramid Cafe’s windows are now covered with white, shower-curtainy plastic, the former sign about renovations is nowhere to be found and the Pyramid phone number is not working. Could this be curtains for the beloved vegetarian-friendly cafe? Tune in next week---same shop-time, same shop-channel.
