Viewpoint Gallery

Posted By on Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 1:51 PM

Starting today, south end photography enthusiasts will be able to support the Halifax photographic scene from the comfort of their own neighborhood. Tonight, from 6-9pm, the ViewPoint Gallery (formerly of 2050 Gottingen) is holding a grand re-opening in its new space, the former home of Pinky's and Allie's Costume Magic (1272 Barrington). The gallery, a cooperative-run venue aimed at nurturing local photographers and printmakers, was open in its old location for over seven years. Why the move? "We're just hoping to increase foot traffic, and to increase people's awareness of the existence of this photographic gallery," says co-op member Anne Launcelott. The gallery's re-opening will be marked by the unveiling of an exhibition of work by the co-op's newest members, entitled NewPoints: Essence of You—featuring work by Launcelott, Brian Atkinson, Anne Bastedo, Colin Campbell and Monika Wright. The show runs until February 3, and admission's free; check viewpointgallery.ca.
