Mud Room Cafe closure

Posted By on Thu, Dec 6, 2007 at 10:02 AM

It's been almost a week since wonderful caffeine provider the Mud Room Cafe closed its doors at 1541 Barrington. We're still pretty sad about it. "Why?!", we implore the heavens (and Ben Moore, who started the cafe four years ago, with wife Samantha Lafford). "I think it was mainly just a matter of timing...over the last probably year and a half, we've been pulled away from it, because we had a second child," shares Moore. With the Mud Room, Moore and Lafford set out to create a "funky little hole in the wall"—a "genuinely friendly spot," where staff and regulars could meet up and engage in conversation. They achieved that, says Moore, who also holds down a day job in the publishing industry. "I just think that it's really hard to maintain your vision if you're not there very much, and it became harder and harder for us to be there...we're happy to have had it, and sad to see it go, but also looking forward to simplifying a little bit while our kids are young." Watch for an existing business owner to launch a spin-off business in the cafe space. "They'll be able to focus way more on things like food than we were able to," teases Moore.
