Eye'll miss you

Barrington Street vet resto Elephant's Eye says goodbye

After gracing one of Barrington Street’s busiest blocks with its presence for 11 years, the Elephant’s Eye Restaurant (1727 Barrington Street, 420-1225) is saying goodbye. The news of the cozy cafe-that-could’s closure came earlier this fall, with rent costs at the root of the problem, but this Friday (December 14) will mark the quaint and quirky resto’s last breakfast and lunch. Looking back on Elephant’s Eye’s lively long haul, owners Daphne Hocquard and Brenda Critch couldn’t be more positive. “We have had a great clientele and would like to thank them,” says Hocquard of her over a decade-long run downtown. “The small business people on Barrington Street are a very special breed, they support each other and its been a pleasure to work there.” Despite the restos clear lasting power Hocquard says for now, there are no plans to re-open in another location and that they’ll use the opportunity to “take a breather”, which after 11 years they certainly deserve. “Never say never,” she adds.
