Lower Deck moves into Clayton Park

Waterfront favourite takes over former Winston's location.

The folks at The Lower Deck have bought the former Winston’s Pub in the Clayton Park shopping centre (278 Lacewood Drive). Not ones to mess around with a successful formula, the name of the new place will be “The Lower Deck Bar & Grill.”

The Deck’s Mike Condy tells us that the bar remains open during renovations, and the new place will look a lot like the old—”everything except the six-foot ceilings,” he says, “lots of beams and stonework. Later this month, the bar will close for a week or two while the finishing touches are completed, and then reopen in November, with a proper grand opening in December.

Expect all the best of the waterfront Lower Deck’s atmosphere, food and music, with Friday and Saturday evening (9:30-12:30) entertainment supplied by the rotating stock of musicians—Signal Hill, McGinty and the like—as well as a Friday afternoon (5:30-8:30pm) matinee show featuring The Dwight D`eon Band and Adam Driscoll. After a while, the matinee might be repeated on Saturdays.

“We’ve been embraced by the neighbourhood,” says Condy. “They’re looking for a nice neighbourhood pub, with good food and music.”
