Local cafe chain shuts down

The Quinpool and Vernon location of Perks (6100 Quinpool Road, 429-1856) has two big "closed" signs on its doors. Calls to the company have not been returned, and at the other locations mentioned on the company's website---Mic Mac Mall and the Halifax Shopping Centre---the lines are disconnected.

Perks has been in business since 1989 and once boasted six Halifax locations. They recently shut their waterfront spot on Lower Water Street, now taken over by a Timmy's.
