James and I began our relationship five years ago. We met through friends and started casually dating soon after. We have had an amazing ride throughout the years and can’t wait to continue to share our lives together.

At the time of our engagement, James and I were living in separate provinces. He was in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and I in Ottawa, Ontario. Due to financial constraints we could only see each other every two months, up to 3 days at a time, so we would try to enjoy the time we had to spend with each other to the fullest.

Trying to alternate between trips to Halifax and Ottawa, we decided that it was James’ turn to travel and that he would come and visit me in Ottawa. It was on this particular trip on March 5th, 2010 that changed our relationship forever. We had spent the day sight seeing and enjoying each other’s company. It was a gorgeous sunny winter day. Before we headed back home James decided that we should continue our outing and go and see the Parliament buildings. We approached the Eternal Centennial Flame that burns day and night and marveled in its beauty. All of a sudden James got on bended knee and holding the ring, he reached for my hand and asked me to marry him and to do him the honour of being his wife. With soft-spoken words he turned his head at the eternal flame and then looked at me and said, “I hope that our love is like the eternal flame and that it will never burn out.” With that, I was speechless, teary-eyed and could barely utter the answer “Yes!” He placed the ring on my finger, picked me up and spun me around. I screamed with joy as one of the happiest moments in our lives had just taken place.

We rushed home to tell our family and friends… although they already knew and had kept the secret from me. Later that evening our wonderful friends came over to our place to congratulate and celebrate with us. We are so fortunate and blessed to have found one another and to have an amazing family and group of friends who are so very happy for us. The wedding is planned for August 20, 2011.
