Moving always sucks. But the Ecology Action Centre promises it’ll be worth it in the end.

The environmental charity is undergoing some exciting renovations to its current Fern Lane headquarters starting in May. In order to make room, the EAC will be squatting roughly two kilometres away at their temporary location at 1888 Brunswick Street.

The EAC headquarters at 2705 Fern was 130 years old when the group bought it back in 2005. Today, it serves as a prime example of what can be achieved with natural materials, courtesy of Mother Nature. Nearly a decade later, the centre has seen its staff increase four-fold, along with an ever-growing force of volunteers. Needless to say, it’s getting a bit tight in there.

The upcoming changes will expand the building to include a whole new third storey, upgrade their existing foundation, update the layout of their main floor to create a more welcoming look and improve the exterior for an even better carbon footprint.

The temporary Brunswick Street location looks a bit grayer than what EAC supporters may be used to, but it’s only a matter of time before they’re out of this…

Sans the ghosts, I’m sure.

But to do all these great things, the EAC will need help lugging some furniture and office supplies down the street.

Volunteers and staff will be pitching in on the big move Thursday, April 30 from 5:30-8:30pm. Contact volunteer coordinator Emma Norton at 902-240-6696 ([email protected]) if you’d like to lend a hand.
