Internet vote this weekend

Posted By on Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 2:54 PM

The internet portion of the municipal election runs this Saturday through Monday, Oct 4-6. But the "real" election day, the day the polling places are open, isn't until two weeks later, Oct 18. This unfortunate scheduling presents The Coast with a pickle---when do we publish our mayoral coverage?

Many community organizations and the candidates themselves are holding back---candidate forums are scheduled well after Oct 6, and Sheila Fougere's television ads don't start airing until this week. Still, we wonder: will internet-cast votes determine the election? Will the election be over before it begins?

We're betting no, and think most voters will wait to decide their vote until after the candidate forums and, hopefully, until after they read The Coast's article on the mayoral candidates, which will run next week.
