Another candidate for Fougere's seat

Since she didn't think notifying The Coast was very important, we'll rely on the Chronicle Herald for this bit of news:

A Duncan Street resident has announced her candidacy for Halifax regional council in the Oct. 18 municipal elections.

"I would like to see neighbours working together on projects that encourage environmental awareness and build respectful communities," Jennifer Watts said Wednesday in a news release.

Born and raised in Halifax, Ms. Watts will run for the Connaught-Quinpool seat, held by Shelia Fougere. Ms. Fougere is running for mayor in the election.

Ms. Watts is a graduate of Queen Elizabeth High School and Mount Allison University. Her news release says she was trained as an urban and rural planner at Dalhousie University and worked for the United Church of Canada, as well as the church’s Tatamagouche Centre. She’s worked as a planning consultant on municipal wind turbine bylaws and was also co-president of the Beaufort Parent-Teacher Association.

Ms. Watts said recreation facilities, sustainable economic development, housing and a fair tax system are priorities.

Watts will be battling Glenn Dodge for the seat. Here's a little advice for her: The Coast has readers and reporters and editors who are interested in environmental issues, good planning and such. You might want to put us on your email list.
