Wonderful editors that lay out the Love/Bitch section. I'm sitting in New Zealand, reading a crinkly, month-old edition of The Coast that was definitely drenched at one point, that my family lovingly sends me from home. I begin to read as I usually do (check the photographer of the cover, and then read from back-to-front—goodies in the back, of course!) I arrive at the Love/Bitch section and do a quick scan: one love and five bitches. Hmm. That's a lot of bitching for a section that includes "love" in the title.

I check the date of the edition: week of January 9. Damn. At a time when Halifax is going through its post-holidaze recovery and many Scotians are actively struggling with depression, the one newspaper that hasn't totally fallen off the rails and still has decent content is really vibing with the shit. Yeah, it's funny. And yeah, it can make people feel better, sometimes. It's great to bitch it out and have others agree and validate it. But in a world where we're desperately needing some guiding light, and some seriously positive influence, do you think we could call back in some love, just a bit? There'd be an outrage if there'd been an interview that covered five hetero cis guys, one woman and no queens. I know there's more love in you, you can do it! — Love Is The Answer

My very first job was delivering The Daily News as a teenager; sad to see Metro go. Have been reading The Coast since you first started. Hope you find the printer that is right for you so we can all continue reading your great Halifax paper. Cheers!

I'm writing to profess my undying love to you, The Coast. I live in another province now. There's just no paper here that compares. Our local papers are not free and our primary local news sources are controlled by an oil baron. Maybe someday I'll arrive at my own list of Best Ofs here but for now it's trial and error. I grew up reading The Coast. You were there for all of my 20s. The best parts of my life in the city—and the craziest times—were plotted out with the information you shared. Whenever I would play tour guide or provide advice for new friends who just moved in to the city it would be: "Check out The Coast!" It welcomed me to the city and helped me to find my way. I miss seeing the cool cover artwork in the free boxes around town. Superb journalism, fun columns and a lot of good times. I'm sorry that I always used you and threw you away—I confess that at the end of the week you went from my coffee table to proper recycling (NS has the best and I took it for granted) or sometimes I even used you to start fun backyard bonfires. Now I'm all alone.. sniff sniff. Thanks for always being there!

...for the incredible 25 for 25 podcasts! I've been flying a lot this year and cannot tell you how much I appreciate their wit and wisdom. As a Coast reader from the very beginning, they've been a brilliant time capsule of the good, the bad and the ugly but I wouldn't trade living here for the world. Some have made me cry or laugh and not sure some of my Air Canada seatmates would agree but they are the best. What a great gift to all of us, thank you!

I just wanted to applaud The Coast for this week's issue with the two beautiful humans on the cover. Thanks for including and even—gasp—celebrating people of all shapes and sizes. While we're all trying to be more tolerant and accepting, overweight people are still routinely discriminated against and ridiculed, with little support from anyone and unfortunately this mistreatment is often ignored or seen as justified (as if discriminating against an entire group of people based solely on what they look like can ever be justified) for reasons of "health" or "not wanting to glorify obesity.” I'm sure you're gonna get some hateful, ignorant bullshit in response but I for one am saying thank you for embracing a group of people that is often denied their rights to being treated with dignity, respect, and basic human decency. —Lover

Every Thursday I immensely look forward to reading you! This new year's break in publication has reminded me how much less connected Halifax would be without you. Please never disappear, I like rustling paper not booping phones. –neat gal who's neater due to you

I love that we can post a bitch or a love without having to set up an account, given an email, log in, etc. It's great to have your say and then move on with your day. Kudos.
