I did the math

I understand there are things that could be fixed with Halifax Transit, but I also think we should take a step back and look at what we have. For a $78, full-price monthly pass, you can go wherever the buses go, which means: to work and back (if you are employed), to the waterfront, Point Pleasant Park, the Public Gardens, the Salt Marsh trail, the Bluff Wilderness trail, Herring Cove, all kinds of beautiful areas. You can even ride on a boat to go between Dartmouth and Halifax. A freaking boat! The views are amazing on both sides and it has got to be the coolest mode of transportation to an urban core. For an extra buck you can go to the airport (a taxi is over $50 more expensive, one way) or Porter's Lake! Man, the streets in this town are not the widest and there are more and more apartment buildings going up, which means more cars every year on the peninsula. The transit system is a fraction of the cost of owning a vehicle. Seriously, take five minutes: add car payments, insurance, maintenance, winter tires, gas of course, parking and see for yourself. Sure, you might wait for a late bus, but you are also saving up for a down payment on a house at twice the speed, if you ditch your car! And instead of white-knuckling your morning drive you can relax and read or listen to your music. Even crush some serious candy. I love Halifax Transit! —There, I said it
