About five years ago I was a single mother on assistance having a bad day after having my caseworker tell me they would not support my daycare expenses or provide me with any personal financial support if I chose to go back to school instead of working at a minimum wage job. So, I took my frustrations to LTWWB and was surprised at how many people gave me a pat on the back, some words of encouragement and told me to keep pushing. I went back to school using high interest bank loans, graduated with honours, won two awards related to contributing to my community, got two job offers the day I graduated and have worked every day since in a wonderful and rewarding career. I've just paid off the last of my loans and now want to test myself again, I want to build a business of my own.

Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to buy a real computer because it falls into the "frivolous expenditure" column of my financial situation, so I'm posting this hoping that maybe this community can be my lifeline—that maybe some like-minded soul who also clawed their way into a normal, prosperous existence has an old laptop or desktop that is obsolete for their uses but could be a lifeline to me in creating a thriving business. I would be more than happy to repay the cost of the computer in administrative or clerical work.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. —Aspiring business owner

I was walking on a busy street and almost fell into traffic. I would have been run over by a car had it not been for a freakishly tall bald man with haunting blue eyes who appeared out of no where who just swooped me up like a ninja. I said thank you he replied, "Whatever, just trust in God," put his ear phones back in and walked back into the crowd.

Not a note of love but instead, appreciation. You are a tall, bald and very friendly…I think, supervisor? You work for a local fast food chain and take great pride in your work. You have been working there for as long as I can remember and always seem to have your shit together. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with working fast food, but with your skills and smarts you could be running a company. I hope that you are treated well there and you deserve a raise! —Just a french fry-eating customer

To the woman who sat in front on me on the 61 Scotia square today: You heard me talking on the phone with my mother, asking her if she had five or 10 bucks i could borrow because I really wanted to get a coffee, and if I did, I feared I wouldn’t have enough bus change to get to work all week. When I went to get off the bus you handed me $10. A little embarrassed, I tried to refuse your kind gesture, and you simply would not take no for an answer. You truly made my day!

What you don’t know is that I’m a mother of three, working two full-time jobs to get by. I spent my last bit of money the evening before buying groceries. Your kind heartedness truly made me believe there are still genuine, kind people out there. It was so sweet, and I thank you! —Enjoyed my coffee knowing I had bus fare!

I've been away for nine months after 20 years living in you. Being away from you might honestly be the hardest thing I've ever done. I miss you incredibly, you beautiful city. I am SO excited to be reuniting with you in a few months! —I ❤️  Hali

You don't even know it, but I have the biggest crush on you. We worked together for about six months, and in that time I began to have feelings for you. I was falling hard and fast. From the moment I first laid eyes on you, that was it for me. Unfortunately, you were and still are with someone else. I kind of hate him just by default, but I can see from miles away he's not the guy for you. I hope he realizes how lucky he is. I was forced to hide my true feelings for you because you're not single. Now, you aren’t in my life anymore and that really saddens me. I miss your smile and I miss hearing you laugh at my jokes. There's nothing I want more than to run into you again in the street and this time actually stop and tell you how amazing I think you are. I'm honestly not sure what you think of me, but I know we flirted most of the time. If there's ever a chance that our flirting could lead to dating, I am so down. Until then, stay wonderful. To the amazing barber from Cape Breton who works at a new shop downtown: Thank you. My mane was a mess and now it is back to all its glory. I cannot stress how much I appreciate all your kind small talk as you navigated through all the knots and tangles my hair seems to just miraculously create. I have never had a better cut and will be recommending you to everyone I know. —Just another redheaded girl

Big UP to all y'all who have the patience, kindness and wisdom to let another finish their thought before assuming, judging and interrupting…You rock more than you may know and you make our human world a better place. —Your fellow citizen

This morning (June 16) outside of the Alderney Ferry Terminal, I truly witnessed a miracle!  A fellow who was just finishing up smoking a cigarette actually GROUND THE BUTT OUT ON A TREE TRUNK AND THEN PROCEEDED TO THROW IT INTO A GARBAGE CAN! Oh happy day!  I thanked him for doing that and he thanked me for picking up nearby litter (which I do every day). I wish more smokers were that responsible. —Proud of Respectful Smokers

I work in tourism, and today I had multiple passengers from a certain regal cruise ship tell me how friendly of a reception they've received from the people of Halifax, and that they've never met such kind people before. Way to go, NS! —Proud of my city right now
