Body in Toronto, HEART in Halifax/Dartmouth

Posted on Tue, Jul 15, 2014 at 1:45 PM

Had to move back, after only 16 months in the amazing place that stole my heart. HRM, you may be inaccessible as hell for those of us with multiple disabilities, but your beauty, your amazing people who care, your amazing bus drivers, the amazing places we got to explore, being able to volunteer at Blue Nose, Pride, Buskers, Tattoo, MS Walk, among other things, made our time easier. I am so sad we couldn't stay, but health wise, we had to leave, as no specialists there. Have been back in Ontario since Oct. 13, was homeless eight months, went through hell and back, but now, finally have a place. It’s hard, leaving a piece of your heart, as you are forced to leave a beautiful place you have fallen in love with. But the memories will never die, just fade into happy thoughts when the days get long and cold here. I will never forget you Dartmouth; your trails, your library that became our second home, your amazing bus drivers, the little stores we came to love, the tight knit community of people across the water, at HOPE COTTAGE, and St Mary's Meals drop in. You both made us feel so welcome in our time of need. I'll never forget Paul. Miss you, your love of photography, your love of helicopters, your love of the boardwalk. You were a great friend. I'm sorry we didn't get to say goodbye, but it was so hard to even say goodbye to the city I'll love for the rest of my life. I got to know my amazing husband there, got married and have so many pictures, so many memories. And who can forget the FERRIES!! (nothing like them out here, NOTHING). Dartmouth III (who survived a horrific April Wine concert), Halifax II (many memories made on this ferry), Woodside I (the almost new kid on the water). Dartmouth/Halifax, we'll be back to visit. We don't know when, but it’s going to happen. I love you HRM. —blindwheels
