Bus driver's ode

Posted on Tue, Mar 20, 2012 at 10:25 AM

I'm sorry... I'm a bus driver. Sincerely, sorry to the people who depend on us, who were housebound, who lost their jobs, or more. I wish it could all be undone. Workers everywhere are being asked to do more for less, and the profits go... where? Why should public servants be immune from the race to the bottom? But I digress... for my point here is the apology.

I understand that 10 minutes difference in a plow's departure could have been a life and death 10 minutes (thankfully not), and so, although I had no personal part in it, I'm shamefaced (is that a word?) sorry. Many of us feel this way. I'm also sorry our union (and I mean absolutely no disrespect, it was a good fight) took 6 weeks of disrupting your lives, for us to realize we were fighting a losing battle.

I respect each and every passenger without judgement, and your actions on my bus dictate the rest. I actually like/want to help you, so please, just ask, and I will try, schedule allowing of course. I am very happy and extremely grateful for my job, so don't hate on me, please. I truly do love you all. P.S. Big, huge, massive loves go to my "Suga-Momma", for keepin' it all together!!! —The Happy Driver
