Halifax is seriously considering using a new type of firework. One that won't make any loud noises. Are you fucking kidding me? That's the best goddamn part of the fireworks. BOOM. Its sound waves echo off buildings and can be heard for miles. Those are the ones that bring a smile to my face. I guess the noon cannon will be next to be phased out. Fireworks are a couple times a year in the summer and that motherfucker BOOMS every goddamn day even louder than a firework. — I Need That Boom Boom Boom
OK: the traffic-funnelling system used on the Dartmouth side of the Macdonald Bridge resembles a demolition derby. And selfish, risk-taking drivers who race from the left side to the one green-lighted lane on the right just make a shitty situation worse. You inconsiderate assholes jumping the queue may end up two or three or four vehicles ahead of what should have been your spot in the lineup approaching the bridge deck. So, you’ll be reaching the Halifax side of the harbour a few seconds ahead of the time you otherwise would have. And once you’re on the Halifax side, you could well be stopped and waiting in another line of cars. Think about this, you motoring morons. — Dartmouth Driver
A few weeks ago, I submitted a bitch about pipeline protestors causing my propane to be rationed. The bitch was never posted. I figured that maybe you had more important things to do or more important bitches to publish. Oh boy was I wrong! You just posted a bitch about socks over pants. WTF? Are you really that shallow? — Almost Cold And In The Dark
Ok, I get it that driving the #1 bus might get a bit boring, BUT could ya not chat with your friend all the way from the bridge terminal to Mumford? And please don’t look at your friend’s phone!I know someone else complained about this. I have too, to Halifax transit, but the issue seems to be on no one’s radar. — Regular Rider Who Thinks Most Transit Drivers Are Doing A Great Job
Yeah, the pond that forms on the Dartmouth side of the bridge every time it rains, really needs to be filled in. The pound can get about 10 feet wide and at least four inches deep because the water seems to need to travel uphill to reach the drain. Anyone trying to use the crosswalk in this area needs to walk into traffic to avoid the current. Then risks getting splashed by one of the cars that sadly had to wait for us to get around this pond. — Pissed-off Soaked Pedestrian
Thank you to the city for issuing a winter parking ban for last night when it was ONLY RAINING. And thank you for giving me one of those $50 tickets for breakfast. What will you do with all the money you are collecting? Oh wait, I know: you'll do what you do best and WASTE IT. — Frig Off
PLEASE, DON'T WEAR YOUR SOCKS OVER YOUR PANTS. (Unless, of course, that makes you happy.) It makes me shiver, gag, scowl! it just looks AWFUL! — Socks Over Pants Hater
I am in a safe, positive, loving and committed relationship with a man who I love and care for immensely. This does NOT mean that I have not also dated and been attracted to women and non-binary, genderqueer, etc., folks. This does NOT mean I am now straight or cis, or secretly was all along. This does NOT erase my lifelong experiences of confusion, and struggles to understand who I am. I mostly lean towards femme these days, because it's slightly less exhausting, and there are people in my life who aren't ready to understand or accept how I identify.
”Passing” is NOT a privilege. It is a constant struggle with my own identity being discredited, doubted and dismissed, which causes inner turmoil and self-doubt. I acknowledge that some of these worries are internal/projections, but I have seen in-fighting in queer communities that seems to imply that non-binary or bi folks aren’t "queer enough,” because we want access to queer spaces/communities but are perceived as somehow not having to "do the work" of being visibly identifiable as gay, lesbian, etc. Gender non-conforming folks have NO OBLIGATION to look a certain way. Anyone who excludes or passes judgment on couples who APPEAR hetero and/or cis is making A LOT of assumptions about their identities and past experiences. Nobody can assume what a person has already been through, will later experience or where they are on their journey to understanding their gender and sexuality.
I am SICK of queer people in-fighting and posting shit about other "so-called queer" people/couples who don't look or behave queerly enough in public spaces. But there are tons of reasons why folks might not be able to perform that way.
We need to support people, not exclude them. This shit is complicated and a lot of folks who grew up in a time before this stuff was openly talked about need to take their time to figure out how THEY identify, even if it doesn’t look obvious. — No Longer A Mess
To the guy stomping around the north end wearing shitty far-right patches on his clothes: why are you wasting your time with that trash? Grow up! You look like you’re in your 40s, it looks like you could use a friend! Go out and meet people, drop that bullshit hate you literally wear. Get off of 4chan and start engaging with people, stop it. It’s really difficult to watch someone make such poor decisions and expect to not get decked. As a safety measure just stop okay. You need to get a hobby or something, jeeez. — You Don’t Have To Be Forever Alone
The more I traverse the city, the more annoying I find it that we have two large car dealerships within our urban core (and even more farther north). Should not we be more critical of how we utilize our city’s space, and not allow glorified parking lots to set up shop, especially in the city with one of the lowest vacancy rates in the country? I’ll remind you that one of these lots demolished a gaggle of homes to have more space for its products to sit on. These businesses are better suited to areas like Burnside, Bayers Lake or Dartmouth Crossing, and not a highly populated downtown area. The sales lot model is dated and not very space-efficient. There could be dozens of homes built in these spaces, or small condos with ground-level storefronts to enliven the areas. Imagine Robie Street without car dealerships, and instead with new small businesses and more places to live! Does it not sound like an improvement? — Teethoflions
