EXCUSE ME, but where are YOUR manners?

Posted on Mon, Dec 10, 2012 at 12:55 PM

I was entering a store in Cole Harbour, and as far as I could tell, no one else was coming into the store. I saw no one in my periphery, and heard no footsteps behind me. When I was in the store a lady starting calling "Oh my God. RUDE RUDE." I turned and realized that was directed at me. Why? Because I didn't hold the door for the person I didn't know was there. I said "I didn't know anyone was behind me." And the reply was "You could have turned around. RUDE RUDE." OK, honest mistake. It happens. But realize this, lady: calling out "RUDE RUDE" after me doesn't make you polite, and it doesn't make me want to apologize to you. I didn't follow you around calling "obnoxious, obnoxious" which is what you deserved. By not making a scene and not in turn calling you out is more polite and couteous than your behaviour toward me. Sometimes, believe it or not, people don't hold doors open for me, and I don't go forming opinions about them or resort to name-calling. I just figure, like you should have, that they didn't see me, are preoccupied on their task(s) or have headphones on and also didn't hear me. So, if god forbid, another individual fails to hold a door for you, you entitled snob, keep your mouth shut. If you don't, expect to get back what you dish out. Merry Christmas, by the way. —See? I am Polite
