Love is about LOVE

Posted on Fri, Sep 7, 2012 at 10:06 AM

I debated writing this for awhile but you know what? I'm still pissed. My sister chose to get married on Pride Day. Why? Because despite the fact that she's straight, she wanted to celebrate her love for her awesome husband on a day when the whole city was also celebrating love in whatever form it felt best. Nobody seemed to have a problem. Nobody, that is, but YOU. After having a blast at the parade, my family, old and new, strutted our sequined stuff into the public gardens for the obligatory gardens photo series and that's where we ran into you. A mean-mouthed bitch who looked at us with scorn before muttering "typical christer breeders." First of all, you nasty woman, my sister AND her husband are NOT religious, nor was their ceremony but it's still none of your business even if they WERE because freedom and love are about CHOICES. Second of all, we did NOTHING to disrupt the day for anyone else. In fact, we enjoyed a combination of heterosexual and homosexual gaiety (no pun intended) as we rocked happily at the parade. Nobody else seemed to mind our presence and we made lots of new friends. My dad even danced with a guy in fishnets. So fuck your stereotyping attitude. And thirdly? This is what pisses me of most of all: YOUR attitude, madam is the EXACT attitude that kept so many homosexuals and bisexuals and transgendered in the closet for so many years. YOUR attitude, far from being one of love and tolerance, was one of hate and scorn for love that other people share between them. Who are YOU to decide how and when people should express their love? YOU represent the very problem that Pride Day was put in place to eradicate. Shame on you. —Lover
