Sorry, Didn't Mean to be a Bother

Posted on Mon, Sep 19, 2011 at 2:40 PM

To a certain server at a great south end pub. I'm truly sorry I seem to be inconveniencing you when I come in for a drink or food. You know how I can tell? By the sheer look of annoyance on your face when someone in my party hasn't quite made up their mind or is still debating. I know, I know, it's my fault for coming in with indecisive people. Allow me to also apologize for myself. Every time you take my order you let me know it's such a chore by rolling your eyes, looking off in the distance and putting off this great vibe of general disgust. I wouldn't want to deal with me anyway, I shouldn't judge you for not wanting to deal with me either. But here we are...

I've worked and continue to work in the service industry, smiling isn't a "must", but for the past year I have not seen you smiling at all when you serve me or anyone else for that matter. Clearly you don't like what you do or are having a bad year and need to get out of your rut. To be honest, you're kinda bringing me down. I enjoy having a few beers in your establishment, but I cringe at the thought of you serving me. The other thing is, I can't not tip you, I've worked as a server/bartender for years and for me not to tip, the service must truly be horrible.

So, if you would, please allow me to give you a bit of advice. Try treating your customers with a bit of mutual respect, making more of a concentrated effort to take pride in what you do, look happy at work and I'd more than happy to tip you more. Or don't! You could keep doing what you've been doing, clearly it works for you. That attitude's got you this far right? —Pity Tipper
