Do a Better Job Halifax!

Posted on Thu, Jul 28, 2011 at 11:32 AM

Yesterday, while partaking in an urban hike, I had cause and curiosity to stop back in at the United Church/Turning Point area along Brunswick Street. This is an area I had not previously visited in some two to three years. I was shocked to see the changes and wondered if there is a new and especially pernicious drug on the streets? In terms of neglect, disinterest and aggressive non-involvement from the professional levels, I cannot remember seeing such a collective absence of effective compassion in this city (with the possible but notable exception of the professional malaise which seems to also affect those VG wards dedicated to the welfare of chronic care patients). There are people down there, folks. Salvageable people. It’s time that our city did something about them besides just warehousing them into ghettoes and then forgetting about them. Fuck off, Halifax, you can do better than this! —Sorrow and Grief
