What country is this again?

Posted on Fri, Sep 10, 2010 at 10:11 AM

Alright, so the end of August and beginning of September is a busy time for people moving. The students that lived in my building just moved out and had a lot of garbage to get rid of, as would be expected.

A mattress, several bags of garbage, and various other furniture. All of this on top of all the other garbage that's been sitting out in the heat for the past two weeks because we for some reason don't have weekly garbage pick-up.

Is it to make us not throw out as much garbage or something? Because it's not working.... The garbage receptacles are right down the side of my building where I have to walk to get to my entrance, and as well as right beside my entrance... IT SMELLS AWFUL!

I gag every time I go in and out! So I get excited that it was finally garbage day.... I get back from work around 4pm to see piles of garbage and furniture still not collected all up my street. I get to my house and see the mattress still there as well as like 10 bags of garbage and other small furniture. I understand there is a limit of how much one house can throw out, but we are a 4 unit house and it seems every house/apartment on the street has a massive pile of trash still remaining as well.

People move in the summer! Can't the city realize that it would be a good idea to send out more trucks to deal with the overload?!?

So now, there is going to be garbage that has been sitting there for A MONTH!! What am I supposed to do with the garbage I'll need to throw out over the next two weeks? That will only add to the pile and I'm sure not all of our garbage will be taken again the next garbage day, and so on and so on.

This is super gross and makes me feel like this is some dirty, undeveloped country or something. We already had maggots, raccoons, flies and rats this summer.

How can the city complain about vermin but do absolutely nothing about it? I also recycle and don't usually have anything to compost, but they take those every week. Why take recyclables every week? They're not going to rot or attract critters. If anything, bums get to them before the city would anyway.
