Young and obnoxious, obviously

Posted on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 1:20 PM

Why the F can't I get a decent apartment? Well, I know why. Because I'm 19. I completely understand that landlords don't want to rent out to a youngin', because of noise and drunken escapades. I'm not really angry at the LLs for that, more so at the idiot young people that ruin it for the rest.

I have a good paying full-time job, excellent co-signer, a good chunk of money in the bank and a car. I applied for this one apartment and was told they don't even accept co-signs. This other one told me while I was looking at the place, that they don't "really" rent to 19-year-olds because I don't fit the "criteria" (even though he had no information on me except for my name, age and sex) and want to keep the apartment quiet. This place was currently occupied by students who play guitar and a family with a young child and baby on the way.

I am willing to and have to means to dish out more money for a nicer place in a good location, but it looks like the only places that will take a young person like me is somewhere in Highfield, dirty parts of Dartmouth and sketchy north end Halifax. Oh, there's plenty of "rooms" for rent and people who want to sublet from April to August that I'm sure would take me but I can afford a whole apartment and would like to live there for more than five months. I'm pretty sure they can't discriminate against me because of my age when I meet the requirements, and have an excellent co-signer for a guarantee.

Screw you, young people that screwed it for me. —Melectric
