Why People Hate Cyclists in HRM pt. 123456789

Yesterday evening on Spring Garden Road I witnessed a society of cyclists enjoying an evening ride on a cool, fall day. The cyclists came up from Queen Street and turned left onto SGR heading west towards Coburg.

As the cyclists get to the traffic lights at the corner of SGR and Dresden, the light is still green then quickly changes to yellow and finally red. The bikers who were already at the point-of-no-return kept going through the lights while it merely turned red. Not a problem.

There was still have the group left that were unable to get through the intersection as the lights changed. The green light was now for drivers on Dresden.

Instead of waiting their turn as required by law, the remaining cyclists then begin biking through the red light! I'm not talking about a handful, but the entire rest of the group (roughly 40-60 cyclists inluding chidlren and toddlers on training bikes) decides that a red light means, "Please bike through and defy the rules of the road."

The drivers on Dresden looked on in disbelief (as did I) as the cyclists' sense of entitlement took priority over the laws of the road.

What annoys me is that cyclists are the first to complain about the lack of bike lanes or how they deserve the same rights-of-the-road as drivers - and then they go ahead and pull this type of shit!

It was one of the rudest sights I've seen and it just asserted the belief that people hate cyclists for a reason. And this was just one of them.
